720p vs 1080p vs SD: Which Video Quality Should You Download?
A plain-English guide to resolution, file size and when “HD” is worth it.
The number next to “p” is how many pixel rows tall the video is (for vertical videos, it's the shorter side). More rows means a sharper picture and a bigger file.
Quick comparison
- SD (360p–480p): fine on a phone, small files, fast downloads.
- 720p (HD): the sweet spot for phones and laptops.
- 1080p (Full HD): best for TVs, big monitors or re-editing.
Why doesn't my video come in 1080p?
We can only offer what the platform stores. If a creator uploaded in 720p, or the platform compressed it, the top option you see is the real maximum.
Rule of thumb
Watching on your phone? 720p. Editing or casting to a TV? The highest option. Just need the sound? MP3.
